june 30 2010 after an intense and highly creative 9th rps festival, everyone needed a break! but then we jumped right into the workshop production and performances of joan kivanda's virgin and presented the play as a staged reading for four different high school audiences, with great feedback. we also dived into the 3rd term of training & professional development sessions for rCurrentz and the rAiz'n Ensemble, so that break lasted an instant. and there are new faces in the office: gailsie stewart (who i've known since... long time!), recently production manager for rps.9, is now on board as the company's operations director; bruce chown, acting administrator since february continues his work as revenue generator; and muhammad agjee, production intern from the festival is working as outreach and project coordinator for this year's summer program. please.stay with us as we launch next season during the toronto fringe festival, and wrap this one with the annual summer aRts project! always b current, Artistic Director Coming up: Don't miss the launch of our 20th anniversary season on Saturday July 10th from 4-7:00pm at A Different Booklist's Book Garden 746 Bathurst Street [just south of Bloor @ Bathurst subway] Part of the Toronto Fringe Festival in association with A Different Booklist See what our artists are working on currently, and what's planned for our next season. Summer aRts 2010 is free for all youth participants and runs from August 3-21, with a short tour of the raw materialz showcase to follow! I liked the variety of body types the actors represented, the challenge of stereotyping in the questions the Clinician asked... The choice of space to show this piece in was absolutely perfect... April 2010 welcome again to news from b current. many changes over the past few month as i opened and closed two wonderful shows, El Numero Uno at Lorraine Kimsa Theatre For Young People, and who knew grannie at Factory Theatre, and now getting ready to launch the 9th rock.paper.sistahz festival. we have some new faces in office: Bruce Chown as Acting Administrator, Starr Jacobs as Associate Producer for the Festival, and several enthusiastic volunteers ready to move us forward into spring and beyond. we are wrapping up workshop and creation modules for the 2nd term of the season's rAiz'n Training, and the next few weeks is jam-packed with activities, planning, and creating so please read on and get the buzz. always b current, Artistic Director rps 9 Launches! @ Artscape Wychwood Barns, 601 Christie Street/south of St Clair Ave W, Studio 251 With a bash in our studio on Friday April 9, the party starts at 7pm, and goes into the night. if you have a festival pass you can join us and meet many of the artists, mingle with food and music and catch a performance or two. Making Noise Media Camp Screening

MAKING NOISE! BLACK WOMENS MEDIA CAMP & PHOENIX's LOVE WOMB PRESENT: an evening of young black female voices, films, photos, storytelling, music, healing, and dance.

In the information age, so many stories about young black women continue to be told by other people.

On Saturday, December 12th, 2009 a collective of young black women from across the city will come together to reclaim their voices by sharing their stories through film, photography, poetry, podcasts and art. This is a night celebrating the herstories of black female youth in our communities, followed by the Love Womb healing jam presented by Phoenix: a community of black women coming together to address and eradicate gender violence.

Come out and enjoy womb-friendly tunes spun by Dee Jay L’Oqenz, affordable and delicious corn soup by Sister Asabi, and a look into the gaze of young black females in the city.

Picture Dis is a collection of photographs that present a visual glimpse into the lives of a group of young women who live in Lawrence Heights. Led by photographer Debra Friedman and facilitated by Ashley McFarlane, the work reflects the photographic skills the group learned over several months of studying lighting, framing and composition, portraiture and documentary photography. These elements where used to merge the artistic with the expression of the photographers lives, families, friends, community, social realities, and stories.

Come to The Canadian Stage Company’s Theatre School Youth Forum to get some insight on which programs might suit you and how to best prepare for them. A panel of recent graduates from all the major theatre school programs will be there to talk about their schools, experiences and answer any questions you might have. Framework Foundation, a unique organization focused on supporting emerging artists and increasing volunteerism amongst young Canadians, are welcoming art submissions for their art auction in 2009. Submit your work by November 30^th, 2009 at 4:00PM to have a chance for your work to be selected by a Delisle Youth Gallery Panel.

If your piece is selected, you will receive payment for your work ($100 - $500) in addition to valuable exposure and promotion. Interested artists can submit up to two works for review. The pieces will be valued and selected by a panel of professionals in the arts. Please keep in mind that the pieces will be auctioned to an adult population.

If you are interested and would like to learn more about how you can submit your work to the Delisle Youth Gallery to be selected for the art auctions please contact us by phone or email, or drop-by with your work.

ALSO Submit your work by November 30^th, 2009 at 4PM for a chance to have your work selected by our Youth Committee for the 2010 exhibit’s promotional material- such as postcards & programs.
