Finance/Admin Coordinator

Nia is a community space focused on supporting the personal development of individuals of African decent in Toronto, Canada. We use arts, culture and education as tools to support young people in being positive, productive, and purposeful individuals with strong personal identity and awareness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (critical resource sustainability planner)


  • Support in execution Nia’s organizational goals
  • Support director and Nia staff in fulfilling job requirements
  • Coordinate schedules, appointments
  • Administrative, financial and budgetary support of Nia, Nia core programs and in future Nia’s community partners
  • Develop, create, organize and update budgets related to Nia, Nia programming and partnerships
  • Develop, create, organize and update filing systems
  • Ensuring reports go into funders and board of directors
  • Support in board development, growth and efficiency
  • Support in sustainability planning (core, programmatic, administrative)
  • Fundraising initiatives both traditional and innovative (write grants, coordinate fundraising events, fundraisers, web-based etc).
  • Resource development via researching and targeting charitable trusts and/or rotary clubs criteria match the charity's projects and activities
  • Develop and execute a resource management strategy
  • Building profitable, long-term funding and fundraising relationships with donors and potential donors
  • Managing donor database
  • Writing applications, letters and promotional materials for a range of potential and current donors
  • Risk analysis and balancing time-cost ratios to prioritize fundraising activities with the highest chance of success
  • Monitoring income and expenditure against budgets and the targets

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Proven history of effective work in community and solid understanding of administration, fundraising principles
  • Understanding of issues facing Afro-Canadian young people in underserved neighbourhoods
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, research and analytical skills
  • Ethno-cultural experience reflective of the Nia community
  • Knowledge, skills and the ability to develop and promote anti-oppressive frameworks and culture
  • Prior knowledge of Nia initiative is an asset
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, keyboarding and technical skills in an MS Office environment including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent client service skills, ability to work effectively with external stakeholders and proven ability to work effectively in a team
  • Detail oriented with proven capacity for initiative and ability to carry out projects with minimum supervision
  • Good judgment with the ability to act tactfully and diplomatically

Freelance Graphic Designer (Print)


Nia is a community space focused on supporting the personal development of individuals of African decent in Toronto, Canada. We use arts, culture and education as tools to support young people in being positive, productive, and purposeful individuals with strong personal identity and awareness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Consult with young people of the African Diaspora and Nia staff to develop Nia’s branding
  • Collaboratively create, design and execute print and/or online advertising campaigns
  • Follow through on design, editing, proofing and printing process for Nia related projects

KEY COMPENTENCIES


  • Interest in mentorship (giving and receiving), continuous learning and interest in sharing knowledge and experience with other young people
  • Knowledge of, and ability to promote anti-oppressive culture in relation to print and online communications/materials
  • Ethno-cultural experience that is reflective of the Nia community
  • Interest and knowledge of artistic trends relevant to young people of African diaspora ages 12-26

The following would be an asset

  • Fluency in a language or dialect of the African Diaspora
  • Understanding of the complexity of African Canadian communities in underserved inner-suburban neighbourhoods

KEY SKILLS

  • Illustrative skills and eye for composition
  • Proficient in the Adobe suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign)
  • Familiarity with print production and typography
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team setting and independently
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with proven capacity for initiative
  • Good judgment with the ability to act tactfully and diplomatically
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in both MAC and PC

Freelance Web Designer/Programmer


Nia is a community space focused on supporting the personal development of individuals of African decent in Toronto, Canada. We use arts, culture and education as tools to support young people in being positive, productive, and purposeful individuals with strong personal identity and awareness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Consult with young people, Nia staff to create/execute web branding concepts
  • Create and build programming script for Nia site and web presence
  • Manage content, hit tracking, reports and as well as navigational patterns
  • Liaise with Nia staff and graphic designer to achieve project goals
  • Manage all programming functions of Nia site

KEY COMPENTENCIES


  • Interest in mentorship (giving and receiving), continuous learning and would be interested in sharing your knowledge and experience with other young people
  • Knowledge of and ability to promote anti-oppressive culture in relation to print and online communications/materials
  • Ethno-cultural experience reflective of the Nia community
  • Interest and knowledge of artistic trends relevant to young people of African diaspora ages 12-26

The following would be an asset

KEY SKILLS

  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team setting and independently
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Good judgment with the ability to act ethically and diplomatically
  • Ability to work under pressure with competing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in both MAC and PC
